Clinics & Services

All of the services listed below (with the exception of phlebotomy and vasectomies) are only available to our registered patients.

Cervical Screening (Smears)

For those with a cervix, aged between 25 to 49, you will be routinely invited for a cervical screening, commonly known as a smear. NHS England will invite you to a smear when you are due either via the NHS app or by letter. If you have received an invite or feel you may be due a smear, contact the surgery to make an appointment with either Nurse Tara, Nurse Harriet, or PA Aisha Ssemwogerere. As of the 1st of July 2025, the time between smears has changed as has the ways NHS England contacts you, click here for more information.

Childhood Immunisations and 6 Week Baby Checks

From the 1st of July 2025 there are changes to the childhood immunisations schedule, for more information please visit the government website here.

Once you have given birth please register the child with the practice at your earliest convenience. You can do this online by clicking here. A member of our administrative team will then make contact to arrange your 6 week post natal check as well a separate appointment for both the 6 week baby check and first childhood immunisations. If you have not been contacted by 5 weeks after giving birth please contact the surgery.

For information on when your child is due their vaccines please visit:

Diabetes

All of our diabetic patients are invited for an annual diabetic check. This typically includes a blood test, urine test, and a foot check with one of our Health Care Advisors and can usually be done in one appointment. We will contact you when you are due, but should you feel you need to be seen sooner please contact the surgery. You may also be invited for other services held elsewhere such as diabetic eye screening. You can read more on this by clicking here.

The surgery unfortunately no longer has a dedicated Diabetes Nurse, however all of our Nurses and HCA’s are qualified to conduct a physical check and will involve a GP when necessary. Your blood test results are also reviewed by our diabetic leads, Dr Julie Harper and Shakeel Rashid. Diabetic checks are typically synchronised with your medication reviews, your results will help inform whether any changes to your medication is needed.

Contact the surgery 7 days after your blood test for your results and to arrange a telephone review if applicable.

Family Planning (long-acting reversible contraception such as coils and implants)

If  you are interested in a coil or implant fitting with us, contact the surgery to arrange a phone call with any of our GPs where they will discuss your available options and arrange an appointment if applicable. Our family planning clinic only takes place on a Tuesday morning and is run by Dr Erica Smith. For coil fittings you may be asked to arrange a nurse appointment two weeks prior to your fitting for a swab to be taken. As we only have one clinic a week, this can lead to a longer wait list during times of high demand.

Alternatively, long-acting reversible contraception can be fitted elsewhere by contacting the Coventry and Warwickshire Sexual Health Hub. For more information on the services they offer visit their website here.
Call: 0300 247 0069.
Address: West Orchard Shopping Centre, Smithford Way, Coventry, CV1 1QX. Open Mon-Sat. (Additional clinics located in Nuneaton, Rugby, Leamington Spa and Stratford-upon-Avon, more information here)

For coil removals, you can directly book an appointment with Nurse Tara or PA Aisha Ssemwogerere.

For further information, please contact the surgery.

However, if you are worried about your or a child’s COVID-19 symptoms/ feel that it is getting worse, have other signs of illness (eg rash, loss of appetite, or feeling weak), have a high temperature that last 5 days or more or does not come down with paracetamol, please call the surgery. If we are unable to offer you an appointment due to availability please call 111 or 999 in an emergency.

For further information on what to do if you believe you have covid-19, please see the NHS website for guidance.

Midwife

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING MIDWIFE APPOINTMENTS – July 2024 & June 2025 update

Due to changes at UHCW, midwife appointments have now changed for those who pay their council tax to Coventry. As our practice locations crossover the Coventry and Warwickshire border, certain services are linked to either University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire or George Eliot Hospital.

For those who pay their council tax to Coventry, your midwife services come from UHCW. As UHCW have changed their internal systems this means the way you book appointments has changed. To make an appointment, visit their website here or you can come into our main surgery (CV6 2FL) and scan the QR code we have at reception. For those affected, the practice can no longer book your appointments with the midwife, appointments must be dealt directly with UHCW. Appointments are no longer held at the practice and we unfortunately have no access to see where your appointment will be held.

For those who pay their council tax to Nuneaton and Bedworth or Warwickshire, your midwife services come from George Eliot Hospital. When you contact the surgery for your fist appointment you will be offered a 90 minute appointment at our Bennetts Road North Surgery CV7 8LA. Unfortunately this is the only surgery that can offer these appointments.

We understand these changes can be confusing and frustrating, please be assured these decisions are not made by the practice and this does not affect which hospital you would like to give birth in. If you have any questions please contact reception by calling or use our e-consultation service.

Phlebotomy (blood tests)

We offer blood clinic’s all throughout the week, at all three of our surgeries. The majority of our blood test appointments take place before 12pm. We do offer a few smaller clinics in the afternoon typically between 12pm – 4pm, depending on availability. If you are unable to make these times or are under 16 years of age, please visit Swift Queue to search local clinics in your area. You must ensure you collect the blood form from the surgery prior to your appointment if you are being seen elsewhere.

You must have already have spoken with a clinician to obtain a blood test form prior to booking in for a blood test appointment.

Please allow at least 5 working days for your results. Your GP will only contact a patient in the case of urgent test results, for all other results you must contact the surgery by calling or using the e-consultation service. While we make every effort to contact patients regarding results that have been flagged as requiring a non-urgent/ routine telephone call, due to the sheer volume of patients we have this is not always possible. It is the patients individual responsibility to contact the surgery about test results.

Travel Vaccinations

We recommend all patients to book in for their travel vaccinations 6-8 weeks prior to departure. To book travel vaccinations, contact the surgery either by calling or submitting an e-consultation. Each traveller will then be texted a questionnaire regarding your travel plans that must be completed in order for the nurse to confirm which vaccinations you will require. Our Nurses Tara & Harriet will then review your questionnaire and let you know what vaccinations we can offer. You may be advised to attend a private travel clinic for certain vaccinations. You will be sent a booking link for you to make your appointment at a time that suits you within our core hours. Should you require a late appointment, please call the surgery as we offer a selection of appointments on Tuesdays evenings between 6:30pm – 7:30pm.

For families consisting of three or more travellers (including children), a questionnaire will be sent to one parent to complete on behalf of the group. Once this questionnaire has been reviewed a nurse will arrange a time to call and ask any additional questions. They will then arrange a time suitable for the whole family to come in while on the call.

Vasectomies

We offer vasectomies for any persons registered at a Coventry, Warwickshire or Rugby GP surgery. To start the process you can call or email the practice. We will require your personal information such as name, date of birth, booking reference number if you have one or your NHS number if you do not. Once you have contacted the surgery, your information will be reviewed and you will be contacted with an appointment for your pre-operative assessment phone call. Provided there are no issues raised at your pre-op assessment, you will be contacted with a vasectomy appointment date and a consent form that must be completed. We currently work to an eight week turnaround time, starting from when we receive your request up to your procedure date.

Your procedure will be held at our main practice:
Keresley Green Medical Centre, Bennetts Road South, Keresley, Coventry, CV6 2FL

Enquires to: cwicb.parkleysvasectomyservices@nhs.net
